Description of primary duties and responsibilities:

Professional Tutors work with Student Support Service Program participants to provide tutorial assistance in Math, English, Science and Critical Thinking courses. The goal is to provide supplementary academic support to students to improve their performance in designated courses.

The duties and responsibilities of a professional tutor are as follows:

Provide individual, small group and on-line academic support to individuals in the Student Support Services Program.

Develop a full working knowledge of academic skills development materials and strategies.

Meet with Coordinator to plan appropriate academic services for students.

Assist Coordinator with Peer Tutor Training activities and Tutee workshops.

Participate in program’s staff meetings and professional development training sessions.

Perform other duties consistent with the position of a professional tutor.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in the content area or a related subject area.

Knowledge skills and abilities:

Excellent communication skills

Flexibility with regard to work environment

Open to training and skills development

Ability to work with students one-on-one and in small groups
