Description of primary duties and responsibilities: |
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit: The , located in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Fayetteville State University, operates in service to the people of south-central North Carolina and beyond. We strive to create the highest quality learning experiences, resulting in our students' ability to critically analyze, communicate, interpret, and ethically confront crime and criminal justice issues. The Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree program with an online degree completion option, helping to meet the needs of the military community and other students in non-traditional circumstances. A minor in Criminal Justice is offered to complement other degree programs on campus. The Department is the first in the state to be certified by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. The Master of Science degree program in Criminal Justice is offered both on campus and online, and students may complete the program through any combination of the two. The Department also offers a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice that expands students' knowledge and employment opportunities. The learning experiences of students in all programs are enhanced by collaborative efforts, including partnerships with the Office of Civic Engagement and Service Learning, active scholarly research, and service to ensure that students become creative thinkers and leaders capable of reaching beyond current intellectual and cultural boundaries to become change agents for shaping the future of Criminal Justice in the United States and the world. Primary Purpose of the Position: The Department Chair serves as the administrator of their respective academic unit. They are responsible for the daily operation of the program as well as long-term planning, scheduling, and curriculum development. In addition to maintaining an acceptable level of teaching and scholarship, the chair's primary duties include managing the department budget and seeking external funds; recruiting, hiring, and evaluating faculty and staff; recruiting, advising, and assisting students; producing various reports for the Dean's Office, and providing vision and leadership to the Department. |
