Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Business development outreach specialists work with the Fayetteville Cumberland Regional Entrepreneur & Business HUB director to identify, plan, and execute project within the nine-county service area. In this role, the individual will coordinator with the county and city economic development agencies, community college small business centers to implement small business trainings to help businesses build capacity to win local, state, universities, and federal contracts. The specialist will identify training opportunities to assist small business acquire access to funding, certifications and bonding and insurance.


Perform duties which support the strategic plan of the university. This may involve project management, contract management, strategic planning, relationship building and management, conducting various specialized small business development trainings.

The essential duties and responsibilities comprising the workload of the Business Development Specialist includes but not limited to:

  • Identify small business community needs and initiate trainings and projects to meet those needs.
  • Conduct outreach trainings and workshops within the 10-county service area.
  • Marketing outreach to assist with marketing the HUB services. Maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships within the economic development ecosystem in the ten-county service area.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends.
  • Must be willing to travel within the ten-county region.
  • Prepare appropriate documents regarding program impact and deliverables.
  • Manage and maintain a client portfolio.
Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

This is a temporary position that will last no longer than 6-11 months.
Description of Work Continued:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution in business administration or project management, accounting, economics, marketing, finance, organization, and management or related field.
  • Three + years of relevant experience in business development/economic development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.
  • Proficient organizational skills and ability to multitask on several projects simultaneously and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant contracting software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge skills and abilities:
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with staff and stakeholders on projects contributing to the mission and goals of Fayetteville Cumberland Regional & Entrepreneur HUB.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to assist director in planning and implementing trainings, and outreach activities.
Willingness to assist with general responsibilities and other responsibilities as assigned.
