Summary:

The Family Readiness Support Assistant serves as the Commanding General's advisor on the Corps' Family Readiness Groups (FRG) programs. As such, the FRSA contributes to combat readiness by promoting efficient and effective communication between the Corps, FRGs and all Family members.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

    Serves as an advisor to the Commander on Family Readiness Group (FRG) program(s).
  • Perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties in support of the Commander and volunteer FRG leaders.
  • Utilizes an in-depth practical knowledge related to a wide range of clerical and administrative Family Readiness Program requirements, issues, services and policies.
  • Provides assistance, information, referral and follow-up on all areas of Family programs.
  • Assists with implementing and maintaining Family support services for Family members separated from the military sponsor due to mobilization/deployment and training efforts, or other duty requirements. Incumbent demonstrates sensitivity to the diverse needs of mobilized or deployed Soldiers and Family members.
  • Contributes to combat readiness by promoting efficient and effective communication between the Command, FRG, community resources and Family members.
  • Coordinates with community agencies who provide the training, i.e., Army Community Service (ACS), chaplains, and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) activities, etc. to assist the Commander and Family Readiness Group Leaders in scheduling and coordinating briefings, orientations, and workshops to inform Soldiers and Family members regarding the functions of the Family Readiness Program and a variety of deployment and reunion issues. These duties include coordination for facilities, speakers, and child-care, etc.
  • Prepares and distributes written information such as flyers, letters, calendars and newsletters.
  • Ensures timely and accurate information is relayed to Soldiers and their Family members sensitive to their needs during training or deployment periods.
  • Assists in the development of call rosters, telephone trees, etc.
  • Maintains day-to-day awareness regarding public, military and/or administrative issues impacting the Families of deployed military personnel.
  • Assists with the establishment and maintenance of the unit's virtual Family Readiness Group (FRG) and websites.
  • Assists in instructing/training units, Soldiers and their Families on Family Readiness issues.
  • Provide updates on the program status, controversial issues, and services available to Soldiers and Family members.
  • Maintains regular telephonic/electronic contact with the Major Subordinate Command Family Program Director to receive technical support of Family Readiness activities and issues.
  • Receives calls and provides customer service accurately, tactfully, and with confidentiality determines nature of request and refers only those contacts needing staff attention.
  • Routes calls and visitors based upon knowledge of programs and operations.
  • Answers routine and non-technical requests for information such as status of reports, suspense dates for matters requiring compliance, and similar information readily available from files in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Updates and provides calendar of FRG activities to Commander in an effort to minimize conflicts in scheduling.
  • Promptly refers conflicts in scheduling to supervisor for resolution.
  • Perform general office clerical duties in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Perform word processing functions, types forms, and maintains files.
  • Prepares correspondence, reports and requests from draft into final form for signature.
  • Assure proper safekeeping, storage and destruction of office records and computer output.
  • Monitor suspense and processes correspondence through appropriate channels.
  • Skills of a qualified typist are required.
Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of family readiness programs, unit structure and procedures, military and community agencies and services.
  • Knowledge of community and social service agencies and resources is required as they relate to the clerical and administrative functions of the office.

  • Type at least 40 words per minute

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience of at least 5 yrs. with Family Programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Communications
  • Experience of at least 10 yrs. with Family Programs
