We are growing our locations and are investing more than $2 billion into establishing a new large-scale manufacturing site for biopharmaceuticals in the United States to accelerate the growth of our Bio CDMO (Contract and Development Manufacturing Organization) business. This will be the largest end-to-end cell culture CDMO provider in North America.

The new site will offer end-to-end solutions to our customers looking to manufacture biopharmaceuticals in the US. In addition to drug substance manufacture, it will also provide automated fill-finish and assembly, packaging, and labeling services. The new state-of-the-art facility is located in Holly Springs, North Carolina, United States.

About This Role

As an Automation Intern, you will have a direct impact on the automation of a $2 billion Greenfield CDMO facility. We offer the possibility of being an integral supporting member of the Automation Team within the area of Drug Substance Manufacturing (DSM) while gaining first-hand experience on a groundbreaking project!

What You'll Do

    Learn and assist with the design, implementation, and build of a DeltaV control system for the automation of a CDMO facility
  • Generate and review life cycle documentation such as User Requirements Specifications, Platform Requirements Specifications, and Functional Specifications for Upstream and Downstream processes
  • Support Automation Commissioning activities in the field
  • Develop, review, and execute Commissioning Testing for Automation in Kneat (paperless validation software solution)
  • Attend regular cross-functional internal meetings with Automation, Validation, Process Engineering, and Manufacturing
  • Attend coordination meetings with System Integrator as it relates to an Emerson DeltaV control system
  • Help manage change control in a regulated environment

Basic Requirements

  • Rising Juniors and Seniors pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or relevant technology field
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and fluency in English
  • Collaborative attitude with the willingness to work with global peers and cross-functional teams toward company and department goals

Preferred Requirements

  • Knowledge with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Process Historians is a plus, but not required
  • Experience in a Pharmaceutical facility, cGMP facility, or working with FDA regulations would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of fundamental biopharmaceutical processes would be beneficial (i.e., chromatography, fermentation, centrifugation, etc.)
