Principal Scientist, R&D - Sustainability/Technology Packaging at a glance...
  • This is a Research and Development (R&D) Packaging technical innovation role, in the ESG Technology Packaging Group. This position offers the candidate an excellent opportunity to identify, drive and lead innovative and disruptive packaging innovation technology and design initiatives that will be instrumental in delivering novel, competitively and cost advantaged solutions across the Kraft Heinz portfolio. The role includes identifying research, design and innovation pathways, demonstrating proof of concept, scale up, and commercialization or transition of technologies and innovative solutions to the business unit.
  • This individual must have strong design, innovation, technical and commercialization skills and be able to link innovative packaging solutions to numerous applications, while demonstrating intellectual curiosity, problem solving, leadership, championing ideas, and project management skills. This position requires an individual to lead multiple assignments/ tasks concurrently with a high degree of autonomy. Exhibiting a collaborative approach both internally and externally is a must..

What's on the menu?
  • Handle multiple/large initiatives with complex scopes and/or cross enterprise platforms concurrently
  • Work with internal teams and cross functional partners to understand opportunities and build solid plans with defined timing and results.
  • Build and coordinate relationships with suppliers, technology partners, design and innovation partners to drive pkg innovation solutions
  • Complete design exploration, build innovation and research plans, implement patent/literature reviews, complete tech documentation, conduct or direct prototyping, lab testing, consumer testing, qualification on pilot and/or production equipment
  • Translate consumer insight and technical research findings into meaningful solutions, communicating results and driving decisions in packaging design and innovation to drive adoption
  • Act as technical/commercialization expert for junior developers and flex onto projects requiring problem solving
  • Lead and drive functional training and process improvements for the pkg organization
  • Present to global teams, senior leadership and key partners
  • Have a high degree of autonomy

  • BS/MS/PhD in Packaging, Mechanical, Materials, Chemical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Packaging Development or Research and commercialization (which can include graduate work and/or internships)
  • Expert understanding of packaging materials, functionality, qualification and commercialization of multiple packaging formats, design of experiments and ability to mentor others in these areas
  • Expert understanding of packaging design and innovation and ability to mentor others in these areas
  • Excellent, proven communication, influencing, project/platform management and problem-solving skills
  • Strong ability to lead, coach and motivate others
  • Manage multiple assignments/tasks concurrently with the ability to prioritize work for self and others.
  • Willingness to travel 30%
